Credit is a part of modern life. Individuals and families who believe that they are being responsible for only buying things they have the cash for will have a hard time buying a home. As will other Individuals and families who have not felt that they had the capacity handle credit financially. And there is another group for which credit may be an issue: people with bad credit. Review the information is the pdf file: Understanding Credit. It will provide you with the information you need (including documenting non-traditional forms of credit) to establish 'good credit'. And for those of you who have good credit it will provide you with a good refresher course. The Homeownership Information Center can provide you with your credit report and an analysis of what you find there for a small fee. We sponsor monthly Financial Education Workshops which will provide you with more indepth information about your finances including credit. We also sponsor monthly Home Buyer Education Workshops. These workshops are intended to prepare you for the home buying process. Other local homeownership programs also provide these workshops. Call one of us and attend! If you live in Alameda or Contra Costa Counties you may come in (call for an appointment!) to use our public computers and explore these websites.
